Sales Tax is a tax imposed by state and local jurisdictions on retailers for the privilege of selling tangible goods to consumers. Each State and local jurisdiction has their own calculation and guidelines for what are "taxable goods" and what are exempted. A purchase on the internet is often subject to those taxes and is not exempted from sales tax. In states where the company is required to submit sales tax, the company may charge your order for tax. If your purchase is taxable within your state or jurisdiction, and the company has not charged your order Sales Tax, you may be responsible for paying the sales tax on your purchase.
Tax rules and guidelines can be found at your state's taxing authority web site. Also see: INDIVIDUAL STATE SALES/USE TAX INFORMATION
